You may think of Six Flags Magic Mountain when you hear of Santa Clarita, but the city is also home to one of the best skateparks in the state.

Santa Clarita Skatepark spans 40,000 square feet and features smooth concrete and metal rails and coping. The park has two clover bowls and a 10-foot square-shaped bowl that is perfect for skateboards, BMX bikes, rollerblades, and scooters. This free skatepark was originally built in 1998 but was later torn down and reopened three times bigger than before.

What Are The Hours at Santa Clarita Skatepark?

Santa Clarita Skatepark opens at 8:00 AM and closes at 8:30 PM. While the 8:30 PM closing time is early for some skaters, it’s important to adhere to the curfew. They make it clear on their website and sign that trespassing at the park carries serious legal penalties.

You don’t have to pay to get into Santa Clarita Skatepark. Santa Clarita Skatepark is one of the biggest free skateparks in Southern California.

How Do You Get Into The Park?

Santa Clarita Skatepark has a parking lot that makes it easy to get into. Simply park in the lot and follow the path up to the skatepark. There is no admission booth or gate to get through during operational hours as it’s a free skatepark.

Santa Clarita Skatepark’s variety of bowls is what many local skaters imagine when they think of the park. There are two clover bowls: one that measures 9 feet deep, and another that measures 6 feet deep. The deepest bowl is square-shaped and extends 10 feet deep.

You will also find a massive half pipe which is a fixture for local transition and vert skaters that visit Santa Clarita Skatepark. The park is well known for having vert and transition obstacles, but the street course sections are large and have many obstacles.

Santa Clarita Skatepark’s street section mimics authentic street skating elements with several boxes, ledges, and planters. There is plenty of flat ground in the street course section as well, and that’s where scooter riders, rollerbladers, and longboarders can cruise and practice tricks. However, each of the bowls is rollerblade and scooter-friendly as well.

What Material Is The Park Made of?

Almost every surface at Santa Clarita Skatepark is made of concrete. You will also find metal coping and rails to grind. Otherwise, all 40,000 square feet of the park consists of concrete, and that includes everything from the planters and snake runs to the bowls and half pipe.

How Busy Does It Get?

Santa Clarita Skatepark gets quite busy because it’s the biggest skatepark in the area. The surrounding city has just under 225,000 residents, but skaters and BMX riders from all over Southern California visit the park. You can avoid crowds if you visit the skatepark on weekdays, especially if it’s early in the day.

Is Santa Clarita Skatepark Beginner-Friendly?

Santa Clarita Skatepark has many beginner-friendly obstacles. However, you should steer clear of the bowls if you don’t have any experience with dropping in. Beginners could practice dropping in on the 6-foot bowl, but the 9 and 10-foot bowls are too extreme.

That said, you can have plenty of fun at Santa Clarita Skatepark as a beginner if you cruise around the street course section. The rails and stairs may be too challenging for beginners, but the planters, boxes, and flat ground sections are fun for novices and seasoned skaters alike.

Are Helmets Required?

Helmets are required at Santa Clarita Skatepark. This skatepark strictly enforces the helmet rule, and you can be ejected from the park if you fail to wear one. You must also wear knee and elbow pads at Santa Clarita Skatepark.

Some local skaters aren’t fond of the strict safety gear guidelines, but it’s important to follow the rules because there are many dangerous obstacles at the park.

Does Santa Clarita Skatepark Have Lights?

There are lights all around Santa Clarita Skatepark. The park doesn’t stay open past 8:30 so there are only a few hours of darkness at Santa Clarita Skatepark, but the lights are quite helpful.

Do They Have Rental Equipment?

Santa Clarita Skatepark doesn’t offer rental equipment. That said, there are many skate shops in and around Santa Clarita. Val Surf and Penguin Skate & Sports Supply are among the best skate shops to stock up on gear in the area.

Can You Ride BMX at Santa Clarita Skatepark?

You can ride BMX bikes at Santa Clarita Skatepark. BMX riders and skaters frequently share the park and take turns carving bowls and shredding the street course.

Can You Ride a Scooter at Santa Clarita Skatepark?

You can ride a scooter at Santa Clarita Skatepark. However, you cannot ride a motorized scooter at Santa Clarita Skatepark as motorized devices aren’t allowed. The bowls and street skating obstacles all work well with scooters.

The History of Santa Clarita Skatepark

The history of Santa Clarita Skatepark dates to 1998. SITE Design Group built a 12,000-square-foot skatepark that was the first of its kind in Santa Clarita. While this skatepark was impressive, it paled in comparison to other iconic skateparks in Southern California like Venice Beach Skatepark.

However, the current, massive incarnation of Santa Clarita Skatepark didn’t exist until 2009. The old skatepark was torn down, and SITE Design Group replaced it with the 40,000-square-foot park that you will find in Santa Clarita today.
